In 1841, settlers from 3 states , Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee first came to settle McKinney,Texas. Seven years later in 1848 McKinney became the county seat of Collin County. McKinney was named after Collin McKinney who was just one of the many people that signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. McKinney was originally incorporated as a town in 1849 and reincorporated as a city on May 28, 1859.
